Norwegian Airline To Allow Cryptocurrency Payments

Norwegian air customers that are into cryptocurrency will soon have reasons to smile as the Norwegian Block Exchange (NBX) has developed a payment infrastructure that will allow them to make payment in cryptocurrency.

This was made known by the CEO  of the Block exchange (Stig Kjos-Mathisen) during an interview with a local business newspaper.

In the Interview, Kjos-Mathisen said, “Everything is ready to go from our side”. NBX aims to roll out the new feature to Norwegian customers sometime later this year, possibly as early as the spring.

Mathisen indicates in the interview that the exchange is ready for the rollout of the payment system and indicates that this may already happen this spring. Mathisen is the son-in-law of Bjørn Kjos, the CEO and founder of Norwegian Air. Kjos has been closely involved with the exchange since its launch in 2018. The plan to join forces and thus make payments with crypto possible for Norwegian Air customers was from the very beginning.

In September, one of the oldest banks in Norway acquired a 16.3 percent in NBX for a reported $1.6 million. The exchange opened for beta users last September and is now accepting general customers.

Norwegian Air is the largest airline in Scandinavia. In Europe, it is the third cheapest airline and the ninth cheapest worldwide. Last October the airline presented its best quarterly figures ever, presenting a gross profit of around $ 215 million. In 2018, the company carried 37 million passengers; also a record for the airline.
