Atletico de Madrid to release fan token
The Spanish football club Atletico de Madrid is planning to collaborate with the blockchain platform Socios.com to release its digital fan token. Socios.com reported this in a blog post published on the 6th of September.
Socios.com uses the Chiliz (CHZ) cryptocurrency on its platform. Fans can purchase this cryptocurrency on Socios.com and then exchange it for the fan tokens. The Chiliz platform runs on a side chain of Ethereum blockchain.
The tokens are intended for supporters. The supporters can then use the token to vote in polls, earn rewards and purchase exclusive merchandise via a mobile app. The token will launch together with a so-called Fan Token Offering (FTO) that will be held later this year. The fan token will be available for just €2.

Atletico de Madrid is the first La Liga club in the Spanish Premier League, to release its cryptocurrency, but it is not the first European football club to work with Socios.com. The Italian club Juventus and the French Paris Saint-Germain already announced last year that they would release such a fan token.
Clemente Villaverde, board member of Atletico de Madrid had this to say about the collaboration:
‘It is a pleasure to become a member of this technology platform that other major European clubs are already using and with which we can communicate with our fans from all over the world in a very innovative way.’
